Service took on a deeper meaning on November 29 as the Rotaract Club of Lucena South carried out Project Kamalayan: Year 3, a continuing community initiative held at the Lucena District Jail Male Dormitory. Now on its third year, the project reflects the club’s sustained commitment to compassionate, education-driven service that extends beyond short-term assistance.

Implemented in partnership with the Rotary Club of Lucena South, the initiative focused on improving overall well-being through a balanced approach that addressed personal care, mental wellness, legal awareness, and financial preparedness. The activity was designed to support dignity and personal growth while encouraging a forward-looking perspective among participants.

A highlight of the program was the distribution of hygiene kits, aimed at promoting personal hygiene and healthier daily living conditions within the facility. This tangible support was complemented by a mental health session led by IPP Karen Jane Montero, who emphasized emotional resilience, self-awareness, and positive coping mechanisms—particularly important in environments shaped by stress and uncertainty.

Education remained a central pillar of Project Kamalayan Year 3. A discussion on legal rights was delivered by Rtr. Aimee De Torres, providing participants with clearer understanding of fundamental legal processes and protections. This was followed by a financial wellness talk from Rtr. Joan Kathline Jamin, who shared practical insights on basic money management, responsible planning, and developing habits that support long-term stability and reintegration into society.

Project Kamalayan Year 3 was made possible through the collaboration of Rotaract members, resource speakers, and jail administrators, ensuring that the activity was conducted in an organized and respectful manner. Aligned with Rotary’s focus on peace and conflict prevention, the initiative demonstrated how education, care, and compassion can create meaningful impact even in highly constrained settings.
