Lucena City, Philippines — September 20, 2025
In celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day, the Rotary Club of Lucena South and the Rotaract Club of Lucena South, in partnership with the Local Government of Lucena City, spearheaded a massive cleanup drive along the coast of Barangay Dalahican last September 20.
The activity drew a large and diverse crowd of volunteers—students, youth groups, civic organizations, barangay leaders, and private partners—joining forces to restore the beauty of Lucena’s shoreline.

Armed with gloves, sacks, and an unwavering spirit of service, participants collected plastics, bottles, and other debris that have long polluted the coastline. The effort not only cleared waste but also raised public awareness about the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems.
Rotary and Rotaract leaders emphasized that the activity was more than just a one-day cleanup—it was a call to collective responsibility. They reminded participants that safeguarding the oceans requires consistent action, from reducing single-use plastics to supporting local environmental initiatives.

The International Coastal Cleanup is a global movement that brings together millions of volunteers each year to fight ocean pollution. This year’s event in Lucena highlighted the power of collaboration between government, civic clubs, and the community in addressing environmental challenges.
As the sun rose over Barangay Dalahican, the spirit of bayanihan shone even brighter—proving once again that when Lucena unites, change begins at the shore.
